Alpha Esquires took on Malibu Creek State Park for an unforgettable camping and mountain biking adventure. From scenic trails and stunning views to a live amphibian show, the weekend was packed with discovery and fun. The Esquires returned home with new memories, fresh perspectives, and a deeper connection to nature and each other.
On Saturday, June 28, 2025, Alpha Esquires Los Angeles proudly celebrated the 10th anniversary of our annual Beautillion. The evening highlighted the excellence and growth of our young men, featuring a dynamic step performance by our Junior Esquires and a graceful waltz by our Senior Esquires and their dates. Dr. Donald Grant delivered a moving keynote address that left a lasting impact on all in attendance. We were honored to present scholarships to our four graduating Seniors as they prepare to begin their college journeys. Thank you to everyone who helped make this milestone event truly unforgettable.
Alpha Esquires concluded a Self-Defense series led by CJ, a Royce Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt. Over the course of the program, Esquires strengthened their foundational techniques and left better prepared to defend themselves with confidence and efficiency. The series emphasized discipline, situational awareness, and practical skills that will serve them well beyond the mat. Thank you CJ!
Alpha Esquires had the opportunity to hear from two Black medical students attending Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine. They shared valuable insights into their medical journeys and how they entered the field. Additionally, they demonstrated several medical tools, offering our Esquires a hands-on experience. This experience emphasized the importance of exposing our youth to Black doctors and physicians, highlighting the critical roles they play in healthcare.
On Saturday, April 12, Esquires had the empowering opportunity to train with CJ, a Royce Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt during Part I of our Self-Defense series. Throughout the session, participants learned and practiced essential front- and rear-facing defense techniques designed to increase awareness, build confidence, and prepare them for real-life situations. The hands-on experience fostered a supportive environment where Esquires encouraged one another and embraced the challenge with focus and enthusiasm. By the end of the day, they left with not only valuable skills but also with a renewed sense of confidence, strength, and unity.
On Saturday, March 22, 2025, Alpha Esquires had the unique privilege of connecting with seasoned pilots and gaining firsthand insight into the aviation industry. The day included a thrilling flight in the back of a Cessna plane, offering an unparalleled introduction to the world of aviation.
Through meaningful networking, engaging conversations, and a shared commitment to excellence, we are excited to build on the potential of this collaboration. A special thanks to the Fly Compton Foundation for helping launch what promises to be an incredible partnership.
On Saturday, March 1, 2025, we hosted our “Definition of Manhood” Workshop, where we explored the portrayals of masculinity in media and society and discussed what it means to be a man. The Esquires engaged in open dialogue, critically examining perceptions of manhood, including a media analysis of masculinity and the unique experience of being a Black man. Through thought-provoking discussions and personal reflections, the group delved into the complexities of identity, emotional expression, and societal expectations. By the end of the workshop, the Esquires left with valuable insights and new perspectives on how to navigate their journey through manhood, equipped with tools to challenge stereotypes and redefine their own understanding of masculinity.
Building on our previous program, our first workshop of the year focused on the A-G Requirements, crucial for graduation and college admissions in California. Esquires learned about the key courses needed to meet these requirements for the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) systems. The session guided students on tracking their progress, setting academic goals, and planning for their college journey. By the end, they gained a clearer understanding of how their academic choices impact their future and left with the confidence to take actionable steps toward success.
On Saturday, February 1, 2025, the Esquires attended the Black College Expo & Honda Battle of the Bands, diving into the vibrant culture of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). They explored over 100 HBCU booths, discovering unique academic opportunities and hearing firsthand experiences from students and alumni. The event also featured the Honda Battle of the Bands, where six top HBCU bands wowed the crowd with electrifying performances, showcasing the incredible talent and school spirit these institutions foster.
The event highlighted the importance of supporting and celebrating HBCUs, which have long been pillars of Black education and culture. For the Esquires, it was a reminder of the power of HBCUs in shaping leaders and communities
On Sunday, January 19, 2025, we held our Inaugural MLK Service Roundup. Originally planned to collect winter items for a local homeless shelter, the event pivoted to gathering essential items and gift cards for families impacted by recent fires in our area.
Thanks to the generosity of community members, we were able to collect a wide range of donations, including food, toiletries, blankets, and gift cards, all of which were directly distributed to those in need. The event was a huge success, and we are grateful for the support from volunteers, donors, and local businesses.
This successful round-up not only helped families affected by the fires but also reflected Dr. King’s legacy of service and community. We look forward to continuing this tradition and organizing more opportunities to give back in the future.
